A Tale of Virgin Hair

A month ago I could have made this statement: My name is Meg, I’m 21 years old, and I have virgin hair. I have never dyed my hair. But this statement is no longer true!

I grew up in a home where my mom dyed her hair rather regularly (I have no idea what her natural hair color is) and so I always thought I would dye my hair sometime when I was a teenager. However, my thoughts did not become a reality. My mom put her foot down on me “ruining” my naturally dark brown hair for a while and then my boyfriend now Husband begged me not to mess with it.

Over the last year or so I’ve toyed with many different ideas for what I wanted to do to my hair, itching to do something. Ombre, all over darker, bottom layer of red, and streaks of color were just a few ideas I entertained. My sister and I talked about wanting to dye my hair blue and her hair pink, so it happened.

Last month she came for a visit, we bought bleach, and stayed up half the night doing each others hair. Her’s didn’t turn out quite too hot (sorry Sister, I’m not very experienced!), but thankfully mine did!

When I rinsed the bleach out, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I had yellow straw-like hair. Thankfully once we applied the color it took perfectly. The next day (who am I kidding, 3 days) were spent trying to get blue dye off my neck, but it was so worth it. Even Husband will sort of admit he likes it!

Overall, I was really quite pleased with the experience. I was terrified once she put the bleach on that a million things would go wrong, and that my hair wouldn’t recover, but honestly I haven’t had any problems. We did reapply the color once right before vacation because I didn’t want it to fade then, but I’m going on 3 weeks without touching it up and it’s still looking pretty good. For my first hair dye experience, I couldn’t have asked for anything more!

For product we used the Beyond The Zone Radical Bleach Kit, Argan Oil Perfect Intensity Hair Color (in Electric Teal & Pastel Bubblegum), and Ion Color Defense Sealer Conditioner.
