The Deans Eat & An Update

It’s been a while since I last wrote and an even longer while since I shared our meal plan, but I think I have a pretty good (& adorable) excuse. The last time I wrote I talked about Baby H and his upcoming surgery. He had skull surgery almost a month ago and honestly, he is doing so well sometimes I forget how recently he had major surgery. He is wearing his helmet 23 hours a day and I update on his life pretty regularly on Instagram if you want more adorableness in your life. Right now he is sleeping peacefully while I enjoy a little me time before we run some errands.

Baby H is 15 weeks old and now that we are post surgery I am working on gaining some normalcy and routine in my life. He feeds on demand and I don’t want to have a crazy strict schedule for his sleep, but I want to have a basic routine to help me and to add a little structure to my days at home. This wasn’t a goal before surgery because I knew it would be all messed up and the past few weeks since surgery have been taken for healing and rest but now is time to figure this Stay-At-Home-Mom life out. I want to blog more, I want to get my home in shape, and then maybe get a little crafty. I need to stop spending my days watching Netflix or playing on my phone and instead actually doing things! I’m hoping to write about this more, but I would love any tips you have for helping you be the best SAHM you can be.

One thing that has been going pretty well has been menu planning! This is such an important part of my life that I have been doing even since I was in high school. We struggled a bit when Baby H came home, mostly because I struggled to menu plan and make it to the store each weekend and couldn’t manage a full grocery trip with the baby by myself so Husband would run to the store for a few items every day or we were eating out way too often. In May I decided to menu plan for 3 weeks (through the end of the month) and do a big shopping trip. It went great and I knew I wanted to keep it up for June. So after spending a week working on a meal plan and grocery list we did a big Aldi & Kroger shopping trip the first weekend of June and it has been SUCH a lifesaver. It has given me back my weekends and I don’t want to go back to weekly planning any time soon. I found that I ruined my weekends stressing about menu planning and trying to get to the store but now I have my weekends back and it is wonderful! Because I buy things for many meals I have more flexibility and can move things around, so now I spend about 30 minutes checking the remaining meals I have left, choosing what we want for the week, and making a small grocery list for produce or things we ran out of or forgot. I am so happy with this new plan and apparently had many words to share about it. Now I’ll shut-up, share my menu, go feed my baby and head to the store. Have a great week!

Tuesday – Chicken & Zucchini

Happy Monday! This Monday is coming with sunny skies, not so freezing weather, long to-do lists, and a fresh chance with a brand new week. You know how when life is super busy and full, you dream of the things you would accomplish if you had more free time? Yep, I used to do that. Now I have this weird stage of life with too much free time and not nearly enough motivation to go along with it. The few times in my life I have been in stages like this I have discovered that you get MORE done when you are busier and have less free time. I have all day every day folks and yet the laundry still isn’t caught up, the floors aren’t sparkling, and I have a to-do list from last week that still needs finished. I’m giving myself grace though, resting while I can, and trying to set more realistic expectations for each day. Here’s hoping for a full and successful week this week!

Grocery shopping for this week was accomplished yesterday. It makes the biggest difference on the week when we actually have the grocery shopping done before Monday arrives. Per the norm I need to run back to the store for a few forgotten or missing items, but it’s always nice to be mostly prepared for the week ahead. This week is filled with easy comfort foods and a special gourmet meal at home on Tuesday. I will share that entire menu in a separate post later this week, but I am SO excited about it! Check below to see the rest of our food plans for the week.

The Deans Eat // Eighty

I can’t believe the first month of 2017 is finished! January was full of lots of unexpected changes and honestly I spent most of the month trying to adjust both mentally and physically. It was full of rest, lots of quiet time, and taking a little time for me before life changes AGAIN when Baby H makes his entrance into the world. With February’s arrival I’m officially in GET THINGS DONE mode. We have just a few short weeks until a baby takes over our lives and I’m feeling the pressure to get us prepared in every possible way. One of those things is getting a few blog posts up this month, and still connecting with this space. I promise to have at least a few special posts this month so be on the lookout.

This past weekend, we headed to WV one last time before Baby H arrives. Our family and close friends showered us with lots of love and gifts for our transition to parenthood. I was blown away by friends and family that traveled many hours, adjusted work schedules, and came to celebrate with us. It was a jam packed weekend and so very bittersweet as we knew the next time we would be in that place and with those people there would be a baby to pass around. So many emotions that I can’t even begin to process quite yet.

We got home yesterday evening to a mostly clean house and I started working on a to-do list full of things that need to be done this week as well as things that need to be accomplished before we have this baby. First on that list per the norm was meal planning. Honestly, I was not feeling the meal plan this week, but it’s done and we won’t go hungry, so that’s a good thing. I was going to go grocery shopping today while Husband worked, then it hit me that grocery shopping by myself would not be an easy task at 8 months pregnant when I’m supposed to be taking things easy and avoiding lifting too much. So I ran to the store for the necessities for tonight’s dinner and I will have to tackle the grocery store with Husband in tow later on. Checkout what we are eating this week below!

I’m a day late getting this posted…so Happy Tuesday friends! I’m pretty bad about writing these posts but never putting the finishing details on them and then pressing publish. I hope you’ll forgive me.

This past weekend was a fun one as we celebrated Husband’s birthday! It started on Friday when we had a simple dinner out together, just us. While we were there we realized something, we could not remember the last time we ate out at a restaurant together just the two of us. It’s been months I’d say. Anyways, then we ran some errands, played video games in bed, and Husband watched some football. Saturday consisted of sleeping in (at least it did for me!), lunch out, attempting & failing at Christmas shopping, a yummy dinner at home and a relaxing night in. Sunday was the big event! We got up and ready church at 9, then afterwards an outfit change and a quick bite to eat, then straight to downtown for the Bengal’s football game! Our seats were great, they broke their losing streak, and other than a few minutes of rain we stayed dry and warmish. Total success! Husband claims it was a great birthday weekend, so we will call it a win for sure.

With the busy weekend, grocery shopping was not even on our radar. Thankfully we had a meal from last week that we didn’t end up making, so we were good to go on Monday, but the question still arose, when will we grocery shop? With both of us working full time it’s tough to make it to the store for a big trip during the week. I was dreading heading out in the cold rain last night to shop and that’s when I decided this week would be a perfect week to finally try out Kroger ClickList! Major perk of moving to the “Big City” is that this is an option here. It’s not an option at our closest Kroger, but there are a couple stores not too far away that offer it. Basically, you shop online, choose a time for the next day, place your order, then drive and pick it up without ever getting out of your car. I think your first time is free, and it’s typically a charge of around $5. I’m going to pick up our grocery order on my lunch break today! I can’t wait to see how it goes, hopefully it’s a success! I’ll be sure to update you on this whole experience later on. I’m just really thankful for it today when it’s freezing, raining, and I’m not feeling too hot (hi sore throat, please go away). Checkout what meals we are eating at below!

The Deans Eat // Seventy Eight

Happy Monday Friends! I truly hope your Thanksgiving was a blessed one and that you got to spend time with those you love and praise God for all he has done for you. This year Thanksgiving was different for us as we weren’t in West Virginia, but we had a great time nonetheless. We are so thankful for the family we do have here that we were able to celebrate with.

As is normal, the week after Thanksgiving is always a bit crazy as we jump headfirst into Christmas celebrations. For us, we always have Husband’s birthday to celebrate as well! We won’t be doing too much traditional celebrating this weekend because we are putting all of our energy into his birthday present – tickets to the Bengal’s football game on Sunday! Husband is a huge football fan and has really wanted to go to a game. Knowing we are going to have a little one soon and money and time will be precious we figured now would be the best time to enjoy a game. I’m crossing my fingers for good weather and a win for our team (they desperately need it…). I’m really excited to get to experience this with him and he is ECSTATIC. I’ll update you on that first time experience next week! Husband picked the meals this week since it is his birthday afterall and they happen to be some of my favorite comfort foods. Also, be sure to check back in later because I have a Holiday Home Tour going up and I can’t wait to share!
