Summer 2015 Bucket List | Conclusion

Sometimes no matter the amount of lists or plans you make, things still don’t turn out exactly as you had hoped. That was Summer 2015 for me. As I had mentioned, husband was taking summer classes and they were TOUGH. They basically sucked up any free time and our dreams of getting out and being busy turned into staying in, being hermits, and getting things done.

It’s okay though. It wasn’t a bad summer – just not what we had planned. I am slowly learning to embrace the good in every day no matter what it is. It’s not always easy! Anyways, I’ll stop blabbering and get to business. First, an update on my 10 things for the summer, then a few fun additions to the summer.

Summer Bucket List 2015

1. Go to a Drive-In Movie – Hmmmm, no. But this weeks movies look really good, so there is still hope!

2. Take Regular Walks – A couple, but definitely not regularly.

3. Take a Hike – Didn’t happen, maybe this fall?

4. Read 4 Books – I’m a little upset about this one. BUT in all reality I will actually probably have more reading time now that husband is back to school. So I still hope to read some books soon!

5. Develop A Blogging Schedule – Blogging schedule, nope. Get back in my blogging groove? YES!

6. Make Homemade Ice Cream – Sadly, no homemade ice cream was made or consumed. But we did enjoy a lot of ice cream this summer.

7. Go Putt-Putting – Yes! Twice actually. It’s always great even if it is extremely hard.

8. Take a break from Facebook – Thankfully I got a little social media break on vacation, but I think Husband and I may implement some more regular breaks in our lives.

9. Spend an afternoon at Summersville Lake – Sadly, no.

10. Make Homemade Freshly Squeezed Lemonade – I made some freshly squeezed lemonade a couple times, although I haven’t quite perfected it. Be on the lookout for a fun twist on it coming soon!

Now for a few things that made our summer pretty wonderful:

I definitely don’t think I have any room to complain. It was a truly fantastic summer filled with fun experiences and many of my favorite people. When you’re an adult, summer isn’t necessarily anything too fantastic (helllooooo real life). I’m ready to dive into fall and maybe just maybe even winter (Just don’t tell my husband)

Vacation // The Cruise Ship

Now that vacation is over and life is settling back down I figured I should do a little recap of my vacation! In order to keep myself a little organized (I have a tendency to jump around) and also so it’s easier for you, I have decided to break this up into 3 posts. I will try to avoid making them too long, but we shall see.

Part 1 | The Cruise Ship : Carnival Fantasy

Part 2 | The Bahamas : Freeport & Nassau

Part 3 | Charleston, SC

Our long-awaited vacation began on Saturday July 25th when we boarded the Carnival Fantasy in Charleston, SC. Since I like to be honest here, I feel the need to share that I was a bit leery about this ship. The Fantasy is one of their older more classic cruise ships (actually, its the oldest), it didn’t have a lot of the bells and whistles, and I simply didn’t know what to expect. I’m happy to say it did not disappoint!

CABIN

Our cabin was small, but we never felt crowded. The bed, was heavenly. When we first got there I was a little concerned about the bed, but it ended up being incredibly comfortable and I had perfect nights of sleep every night, I actually wondered if there were drugs in the pillows a few times. There was only one outlet in the room, but thankfully we brought a power strip so that wasn’t a problem. One of my biggest concerns is always what the temperature of a room will be, because I tend to be picky. Other than the very first day, the temperature was perfect and I never had to think twice about it. I think it’s a pretty good thing to be able to say I truly had no complaints about the cabin. It was great!

FOOD

This is one of the best parts about a cruise. Virtually endless food abounds and here’s the thing – it’s not just endless, it’s delicious. While I’m not going to say the food was perfect, it was certainly good and there isn’t much room to complain. The service in the dining room was great, the selections varied, and the food was filling. I have listed mine and Husband’s favorite appetizer, entree, and dessert below. We had an amazing brunch one morning that was to die for. Also, did I mention 24 hour pizza?

ENTERTAINMENT

It’s true, the Carnival Fantasy gives you more of a classic cruising experience, but thankfully classic does not have to mean bad. Instead of all of the guests being busied with a few dozen options of things to do during their free time, it was more concentrated on a few great things and those few things were full of excited people. When we weren’t eating or sleeping (which we did plenty of) we were relaxing outside soaking up some sun, curled up with a book in one of the comfy lounge chairs, playing trivia (Disney trivia anyone?), indulging in a little old lady gambling – Bingo, live music venues, Karaoke (watching – not participating), comedy shows, game shows, and more. We were never bored and were truly entertained. It was so good to just spend care free time with Husband, laughing without a care in the world. We might have spent an afternoon on the water slides as well ;).

Cruise ships are such a unique and amazing vacation. This is my second one now and while I wouldn’t want to do this every year it is a nice getaway. If you’ve never experienced one, I truly recommend you book one in the very near future. It’s an experience like no other. It took me a little while to get my sea legs, but once I did it was smooth sailing from there and I am so glad the cruise ship did not disappoint us!

Summer 2015 Bucket List

I’m a fan of lists, as you all know. I wrote a summer bucket list last summer, and had a senior year bucket list a few years back. I think that the summer bucket list is my favorite thing, because it gives me a little bit of purpose for things I want to do during the summer (even if I am running behind!)

I have to admit though, I’m not feeling too inspired about this summer. It’s my very first summer working full time, and on top of that husband is working nearly full time and taking summer classes. So basically, it’s not looking to be a very exciting summer. Despite that, the evenings are long, and we have partial weekends to enjoy and doggone it, we WILL have fun this summer! Additionally, this is potentially our last summer as “kids” (married kids though, I assure you). Next spring, husband will graduate and we have absolutely no idea what our lives will hold. We hope a move, new jobs, and maybe more! This is also our first summer that we’ve been married that moving is not on the agenda-woohoo!

Summer Bucket List 2015

Summer Bucket List // 2015

1. Go to a Drive-In Movie – We have a local place that does weekend drive-ins. Husband has never been to one, so this is a summer MUST do.

2. Take Regular Walks – Ideally, I would love to say we would do this everyday, or 3 times a week, or 2 times a week. But I don’t really know how well that will work. The main goal though is to simply take regular walks.

3. Take a Hike – Can you see a fitness theme this summer? Really wanting to be active and enjoy this gorgeous state we live in. We have plenty of amazing trails around here, and one that was just recently nationally recognized!

4. Read 4 Books – I read semi-regularly, but I really want to make this a priority this summer. I would love to read 2 fiction and then 2 memoir type books. What are some of your suggestions?

5. Develop A Blogging Schedule – As we can all tell, this blog is a little lost. Things are a little bit all over the place. Hopefully by the end of the summer I will have figured out a slightly regular posting schedule.

6. Make Homemade Ice Cream – Husband and I have a little ice cream maker, plus I want to try to make some no churn ice cream as well!

7. Go Putt-Putting – We have a really awesome local spot that is West Virginia themed! It’s been a while since we’ve been and husband and I really need to make this happen again soon.

8. Take a break from Facebook – I don’t know if it will be a day, a few days, or what. But taking a break from Facebook is a must at some point.

9. Spend an afternoon at Summersville Lake – A gorgeous local lake that has a little beach area that I’m aching to go relax on for the day!

10. Make Homemade Freshly Squeezed Lemonade – I love freshly squeezed lemonade, but I have never attempted to make it on my own. While it would be delicious any time of the year, it really should be enjoyed on a warm summer day!

Now, don’t worry folks, I’m sure my summer will consist of a few things apart from these 10 things. A day at the pool here, music event there, and vacation at some point. I think it’s shaping up to be a pretty fantastic summer, despite a full time job.

What are your summer plans? Any goals? Dreams? Exciting adventures? I’d love to hear about them!

Summer Bucket List // Final Update

It is hard to believe that it’s already September. Where has the summer gone? I think it’s time that I call our summer ended. I’m working full time, husband is back to school, and Labor Day has passed. Technically there are still a few days left of summer, but I think I’m ready for it to be over. Now it’s time for my final Summer Bucket List update!

10501593_10203431636007849_7546267086881659312_n

  1. Go to the swimming pool at least 3 times – I went to the local pool 2 times, the lake once, as well as the beach and the pool quite a few times on vacation. I think I would call this a success!
  2. See The Fault in Our Stars with my sister! – Done. Cried my eyes out for sure, and now it’s almost time to rent it so I can watch it with husband.
  3. Go camping! – No such luck. That’s okay with me though, I knew this was a pretty aspirational goal. Maybe some other time. If anyone wants to let me borrow camping gear we might still get this one in some time!
  4. Go to a baseball game – Yes! We cheered on the WV Miners at a couple games and enjoyed the environment. We have also been watching a good bit of baseball on TV recently since husband got a special deal on MLB TV. I won’t complain, I enjoy it for the most part!
  5. Go swimming in a local swimming hole. – This one I would claim 50% on. I went swimming in some local fresh water, but it wasn’t exactly a swimming hole. Summersville lake is a blast to go swimming in nonetheless. Maybe next summer we will hike out to a swimming hole!
  6. Go to a carnival (or something similar) – As I found out at the beginning of the summer…these are way more expensive than I remember them being, so we willingly passed on that this summer. It simply wasn’t too important to us and we spent our summer doing things we would enjoy more.
  7. See fireworks! – Yes, twice! Once at a baseball game on July 4th and once on vacation. The hillbilly WV ones were definitely better.
  8. Have a picnic! – How did we not do this? We ate outside once at a restaurant… does that count?
  9. Go to an outdoor concert/festival. – I heard music outside, so I think that counts. This was just so hard to do based on husbands work schedule which really made things difficult.
  10. Most importantly, I want a real suntan. – Yes! Along with quite a few sunburns. I am tan-ish nonetheless.

Overall I would say it was a pretty successful summer! There were so many more wonderful things in our summer that weren’t on our bucket list. Now that the summer is coming to a close I am ready as can be for fall. Check in soon for our Fall To-Do list!

Summer 2014 Bucket List

I have been working on writing quite a few different posts, but our internet decided not to cooperate at all yesterday which left me without a post going live yesterday. So sorry! I think I’m going to try to start scheduling some ahead of time when I have internet so I don’t have to worry as much about making
sure I can get online and post. Anyways, here is the post that I wanted to post yesterday but just didn’t get to! Also, please forgive the formatting errors, the iPhone app is a mess to be put simply

Summer is upon us, even if the season hasn’t officially begun. I highly doubt this will be a summer full of too much adventuring due to work schedules and financial limits, but I definitely have a few things I want to do this summer. This is our first summer in Beckley and our first one being officially on our own since being married (we were living with husband’s dad last summer). Despite our limitations, we are still going to try to make the best of it and I thought I would share some pictures from last summer as well as a few things that are on our Summer Bucket List!

  1. Go to the swimming pool at least 3 times. (Last year I went a whopping one time so it really is a big goal) 20140606-142920.jpg
  2. See The Fault in Our Stars with my sister! I know this isn’t a super aspirational goal, but if the summer ends, or I guess if the movie goes out of the theater and I haven’t seen it, I’m going to be very sad.
  3. Go camping!! I know, I know, I am not a camping person at all. I haven’t had good experiences thus far, but I think I would like to try it with husband at least once. I don’t know if it’s Pinterest or pictures I have seen from others but there is something that seems slightly romantic about it. Plus I think husband and I work together pretty well and I think it would go pretty well with him. (Also, s’more making is a must, even if the camping doesn’t happen)
  4. Go to a baseball game. This one may mostly be for the sake of husband, but I enjoy a good baseball game too, especially on a cool evening. Hopefully we will be going to a West Virginia Power Baseball game soon!20140606-143247.jpg
  5. Go swimming in a local swimming hole. We have quite a few areas for swimming in fresh water around here and I am dying to take advantage of them!
  6. Go to a carnival (or something similar). This may be fueled only by the fact that I can see a carnival getting ready to set up here in Beckley. But seriously, I need some crappy food and rides that make me feel sick.
  7. See fireworks! This could go hand in hand with a baseball game, or maybe not. But I seriously want to see some with husband.20140606-142939.jpg
  8. Have a picnic! This could be right outside our apartment or at a local park. Who knows!
  9. Go to an outdoor concert/festival. Honestly at this point I could care less who is performing, but I seriously want to see some live outdoor music at least once this summer. It used to be a really regular part of my life but sadly hasn’t been happening as much these days. We both love music so I think we are going to do our best to make this happen!20140606-143035.jpg<
  10. Most importantly, I want a real suntan. Last summer I was super dark due to a month of a tanning bed and then a week at the beach, but that was it. This summer I seriously want a real SUNtan. Not a fake bake.20140606-143358.jpg

What are your plans for the summer? I realize mine seem pretty boring, but if I can accomplish all 10 things on this list, I will be amazed and will deem this summer a very successful one!
